Today was really great. I got to see two puppies meet their parents. I saw the biggest Great Dane I’ve seen to date. And I was given the best facial of my life by the cutest boxer puppy in the world. Yes, yes I am your master, and yes, yes I love it when you cover me with your tongue. I love this job, it’s the best break from life that I can imagine.

We had to pick a social institution and apply it to these 4 various social theories and I chose pet rescues. My professor emailed me to tell me that she loved my post because she’s getting two new Goldens from WAARG. :D Aw that just warms my heart.

I feel like this needs to be postered up on every wall in America. The decline in care for pets is outrageous and it kills me every time I go into work and I see these people with animals that clearly have been bred from puppy mills and just aren’t getting the care they deserve. Honestly, if you had a kid, would you not bathe it? Not brush it’s hair? Not take it out to see the world? Not expose it to situations so the child learns how to interact in public? I bet you 100$ that you would do those things, so why not for your pet? I realize most animals are self sufficient in the areas of bathing and grooming. But if your pet has a long luxurious coat would you really just let it get matted and old and stinky? The dog can’t turn a shower on by itself, it needs that extra help! If you had a cold would you not go to the doctor? So why let your dog’s cold fester until it’s dead? Why are you skipping your pets meals if you feed yourself round the clock? Why aren’t you caring for the one thing that asks for some attention and UNCONDITIONALLY loves you every step of the way? We have bred dogs to become to unnervingly dependent that in studies comparing dogs to wolves (to compare the amount of domestication), dogs will continually wait for a command from the owner to solve an issue whereas wolves will continually attempt to problem solve on their own resorting to human help only at a moment of weakness. I realize dogs aren’t people. They’re not. They just don’t have the same mental capacity as we do. But they need us, we have made them dependent on us, and it’s our faults for doing so, which means it’s OUR responsibility to care for them. Take care of your pets, take care of your dog and your cat and your fish and whatever else kind of personal zoo you’ve accrued. Love them! Feed them! You would do the same for a homeless person on the street that you don’t even know, so why are you allowing your own pet to flounder in their own feces??
I will never understand people. We break the will of people and animals to bend to our commands, and when they are at their weakest and look to us for support, we abandon them.

Here’s a look at George through the years, along with a photoblog of his various trips. He loves NYC!
